Home composting
The best thing to do with garden and food waste is to compost it at home. Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings can be put into a compost bin or heap or a hot composter to produce a nutrient-rich, peat-free compost that can be used to help gardens grow. Meat, fish, dairy, bones and cooked food waste can be composted using hot composters and food waste digesters.
To find out about the different types of bins that can be used at home to break down garden and food waste, visit our compost bins, hot composters and food waste digesters page.
We have partnered with Great Green Systems and HOTBINs to offer Surrey residents a variety of reduced price hot composters, food waste digesters and compost bin products.
